Michiel Hoogeveen is a Dutch Member of European Parliament representing the party JA21 Conservative Liberals (ECR Group). He is Vice-Chair of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and an active member of the International Trade Committee and the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. He is also active on the US and Korea delegations for relations with the European Parliament.
Michiel began his professional career in the financial sector. He also served as member of the provincial parliament of South Holland (2019-2021). Being a political scientist, his interest in the Korean peninsula spurred him to travel to North Korea and write a book about his experiences. It is called “The Hermit Kingdom” and is for now available exclusively in Dutch.
